Teaching Seminar in Composition means joining a community of dedicated writing teachers, and the Writing Institute is here to support you, whether you are new to the course or have been teaching it for years.
Moriah Kirdy serves as the SC Faculty Mentor. She is available for one-on-one conversations about course design, assignment sequencing, responding to student writing, and anything else that comes up in the classroom. For part-time faculty and teachers new to SC, Moriah reviews syllabi and helps orient you to the course and its goals. If you are an experienced teacher, she is a resource and a thought partner as your practice continues to evolve.
SC teachers have access to a range of support throughout the year, including orientation for new teachers, syllabus review, and ongoing mentoring and classroom consultation. Each term, Moriah Kirdy, Brenda Whitney, and Cory Holding lead brown bag discussions where SC teachers come together to share ideas, work through challenges, and explore topics in writing pedagogy. The community also shares resources and materials through the SC Community Vault on Canvas; if you don't yet have access, reach out to Moriah to be added.
