The Writing Institute launched the Creating a Culture of Access series in 2023. We see this series as the active, collaborative work of building a world where access isn't an afterthought but a core value embedded in how we think, act, and relate to one another. Guest speakers challenge us to think critically about the barriers people with disabilities face and what we can do to dismantle them. All events are held online to ensure easy access for all participants. The series is organized by Jessie Male. Please note that we are committed to curating accessible events. Contact Dr. Male if you have any questions about access or specific accommodation requests.
The program is complete for this academic year. The series wiill return in Spring 2027.
Note: The spring Creating a Culture of Access series serves as the foundation for ENGLIT 2925: Creating a Culture of Access, a one-credit seminar facilitated by Dr. Male and offered some spring terms (next available in Spring 2028). Registered students supplement the speaker series with four one-hour Zoom discussions and a series of reflective writing assignments. The seminar is open to graduate students and upper-level undergraduates.
